Jan Sewell Design Act IIIt was a sad day last September when the Seattle real estate community lost Jan Sewell, a well-known Windermere real estate agent, and founder of Jan Sewell Design, passed away in her Seattle home. Since the mid-1990s, Jan had been well-known and highly respected in the Puget Sound community for the spotlight she brought to the process of “staging” homes. To real estate agents in the Puget Sound, Jan was known as “the” stager to work with. While she personally had a very strong and defined aesthetic, she was able to move past her personal tastes to create an ambience which would best showcase a home’s features to potential buyers. In truth, staging was a natural fit for Jan, combining her shared interests in art, design, and real estate. And her passion paid off! Her success at staging homes, with the combined results of quicker sales for higher prices, would earn her a stellar reputation. With Jan gone, many members of Seattle’s real estate community were left wondering about what would happen to Jan Sewell Design. The wondering is over! As a long-time admirer of Jan’s work, Charlotte Graham was saddened to hear of her passing. But she also knew that Jan would passionately want to see her company continued in the tradition it had begun. In many ways, Charlotte was the quintessential choice to succeed Jan in the business. A Windermere agent herself, Charlotte also brings an extraordinary design sensibility, coupled with past success in the design and construction world. An accomplished project manager, Charlotte brings “big picture” vision, and pairs it with industry expertise – two key ingredients for success when staging properties. As a real estate agent, she also understands the complexities of that industry, and the mindsets of both buyers and sellers. Her past work with companies renowned for their focus on the “customer experience” – Nordstrom, Starbucks and Windermere, to name a few – provide a foundation and guiding principle for her work both as an agent, and as a stager. So where will Jan Sewell Design head? Don’t expect to see sweeping changes at the company. Jan’s existing staff will be staying on with Charlotte as she enters the business. The company’s reputation for excellence and a distinctive design style are legacies which will be carried forward by the new owner. Currently Jan Sewell Design operates a 15,000 square foot warehouse. With inventory on hand to stage approximately 45 homes at any one time, Jan Sewell Design is one of the most significant staging companies in the greater Puget Sound. An inspiring leader, Charlotte is looking forward to the rebirth of Jan Sewell Design with additional interior design services and a continuation of great staging.
